The Verification of various projects

BELOW2 assesses and verifies your case based on data provided by our engine and the data you submit to us. This enables us to calculate and document precisely how much carbon you permanently remove or avoid during which period.

This effect is documented (according to data protection guidelines) in a 100% transparent way and visible to everyone. This information is then stored on the blockchain, and subsequently, the BELOW2 Verified Carbon Impacts (VCIs) – our carbon credits – are created as NFT.

Sequestration is carried out by biochar. When burned or decomposed, plant residues release the CO2 they have bound. However, if the plant residues are converted into plant charcoal in a pyrolysis process, a large proportion of the CO2 is bound in the charcoal. If this charcoal is spread on a field and incorporated into the soil, it is stable in the ground for at least 1,000 years.

A forest absorbs CO2 and releases CO2 by composting old biomass. If the forest absorbs more CO2 than it releases, this is VCI-S-50 sequestration. The CO2 is not stored for several thousand years but at least 50 years. For forests used as VCI-S-50, the owner agrees to maintain the forest for 50 years.

The future creation and emission of C atoms or equivalents that do not exist today are prevented. This includes, e.g., solar and wind farms or biogas plants. The local heat that is generated from biogas plants is considered CO2-neutral. VCI-A can be generated from local heating credits. In local heating, the thermal energy of a central heating system is distributed to several nearby consumers.
